What is a Financial Coach & Why You Might Need One
Are you getting the things that you want in life? Are you able to save up a down payment to purchase a house? Are you saving enough for your kid’s college (do you know how much you need to save)? Are you saving up for a comfortable retirement (do you know how much that should be)? Are you able to start that business that you’ve always wanted to start? Are you able to travel, enjoy hobbies & enjoy life? Are you able to give generously? And, most importantly, are you able to do these things without piling up a lot of debt and without significant stress? If you answered “Yes” to all or most of these questions, congratulations! You’ve done the right things & you are reaping the rewards!
For many of you, unfortunately, the answer was “No” to many, if not all of the above questions. Things aren’t going well, there’s lots of debt, priorities are not being funded & your marriage is struggling. And, you likely don’t know what you should do to turn things around. 20 years ago, my wife and I would have answered “No” to every question I posed above, except one (we did already have a house). Not great! We also had no idea what to do about it, and that was the most terrifying part. Fortunately, we did find a way out & we did put our kids through college, and we do travel often & enjoy life. Also, several years ago, I retired early from Corporate America and started my own Financial Coaching business. I am now able to help others with their financial problems & help guide them to a better life. I’ve been where they are. I know how it feels to be in financial trouble. I also know what it’s like to actively fix it and reap the rewards. Focused attention to financial problems can 100% fix the problems & lead to a much more enjoyable life. I enjoy coaching every day because I’m able to help people achieve their dreams.
My job as a Financial Coach is to help people figure out what’s holding them back & help them make changes. Sometimes it’s just information they’re lacking. They need to learn how to do a budget, how to set financial goals and how to put together a plan to achieve those goals. For many, however, there’s more to it. There’s more to it because our experiences growing up along with our mindset and habits influence our actions and our results (or lack thereof). For many, understanding how their mindset & habits are holding them back, and learning how to make changes is actually more important than putting together a plan. In fact, our mindsets must shift before we’ll be willing to make changes & put together our plans.
Sadly, married couples often disagree about how to handle money. So, money issues aren’t only stressful, but they also create conflict in their marriages. Spouses need to learn how to communicate peacefully about money. Working as a team, spouses can accomplish anything. Working apart, they are instead pulling in opposite directions & creating frustration and anger towards one another.
Imagine what it would be like to have a peaceful and productive conversation with your spouse about money. Wouldn’t that be great? Imagine if you were therefore able to save for retirement and know that you’ll have a comfortable & enjoyable retirement. Imagine if you put your kids through college without student loans. How would that change their lives? Imagine if you were able to travel when you want & enjoy life without the stress and anxiety about money problems. Imagine saving up a down payment and purchasing the home of your dreams? Imagine being able to give generously without any fearing that you didn’t have the money. Imagine starting your own business & being in a position that you have enough money to allow plenty of time for it to get off the ground. How would that feel?
